The Man Who Planted Trees is an Academy Award Winning Canadian Short Animation by Frederic Back based on the short story by Jean Giono. For me, it provides a strong metaphor for the work of teaching, work which is often without immediate gratification but work which has a lasting impact upon self, other, and world.

I offer it to you as a way of expressing the hope that is everpresent in even the smallest acts that teachers perform and as a way of taking forward into your life and work some of the many ideas we have discussed during our time together.

I wish you all the best in this season that calls on us to remember what is most important.
